Jason Bentley

Music Director KCRW

Jason Bentley is one of the most prominent radio hosts on the American West Coast. He has been music director at KCRW in Santa Monica since 2008, having started his career at the influential radio station in 1988 when he was just eighteen. In 1995, he co-founded the Los Angeles club night “bossa:nova”, which featured DJs from around the world, including Kruder & Dorfmeister, Groove Armada, Daft Punk, and Gilles Peterson.

In addition to his radio work, Bentley has been active in a variety of projects. He coordinated the music for all three “Matrix” films, for the “Matrix” video game, and for the film “Tron: Legacy,” and his talent as a music curator is in great demand. As fans of his much-loved morning radio show are well aware, Bentley’s knowledge of all genres of popular music – from rock and pop to dance and world music – verges on encyclopedic. “I feel the responsibility to be the music director for the city of Los Angeles,” says Bentley. “The challenge is how do you forge a career based on good taste.”
