ANCHOR - Reeperbahn Festival International Music Award
There are more and more women redefining the conditions of making music on their own. One of them is Olivia Sebastianelli from London’s borough Croydon. At the age of 14 she started writing soulful melodies with a slight grunge influence combined with political lyrics.
At the age of 17 she could launch a record deal with Sony RCA but quit on that after eight months, frustrated for obviously they wanted her to turn into Katy Perry 2.0. Since then she’s doing her thing – successfully. She sounds like a combination of Kurt Cobain and Chrissie Hynde. A song like "Cam Girl" is definitely fit for hitting the charts. Behind Sebastianelli’s low vocals stands a restrained, classic pop sound. She is definitely preferring melancholic ballads to up tempo tunes though her album will mix both for sure. In addition she sports her terrific soul voice.
