ANCHOR - Reeperbahn Festival International Music Award
Florence Arman had already gained fame as a songwriter when no one knew her. A paradox? Actually, not at all. Without ever landing in the full celebrity glare, she worked early on for Cro, G Flip, or The Kooks and teamed up with Viennese house DJ filous under the name klei (Dutch for “clay”, the modeling clay). This year, under her real name, she finally released her debut EP “Out Of The Blue”, whose title is the perfect description of what the industrious lass with British-Irish roots who now resides in Vienna has produced musically multiple times in recent years: surprisingly catchy yet fresh pop songs that work just as well in the shade of introspective melancholy as they do in mottled good humor. Either way, when Arman demonstrates her talent for uncomplicated but effective harmonies, it’s always colorful and joyous – and this is well-known to be something that can’t be taught. You either have it or you don’t. Arman has proved countless times that she has it in spades.
