ANCHOR 2019 – The Nominees

The board has voted and the 6 Nominees for the ANCHOR - Reeperbahn Festival International Music Award have finally been announced. On two days of the Reeperbahn Festival, they have to face the critical eyes of the Jurors. The pop artists Kate Nash and Peaches, the two producer legends Bob Rock and Tony Visconti, Beatsteaks frontman Arnim Teutoburg-Weiß and the Australian radio presenter and journalist Zan Rowe will mingle with the festival visitors to announce the winner of the ANCHOR at St. Pauli Theater on 21 September. The show will be moderated by Hadnet Tesfai and Steven Gätjen.

6 out of 73!

73 acts have applied for the ANCHOR this year - more than ever before! These six have managed to convince the board of music and media experts.
These are the six candidates for this year's ANCHOR Award:

Rapper and producer alyonaalyona(UA) sounds like no other artist currently with her DIY sounds, also managing to convey her messages into the hearts of an audience not familiar with her mother tongue.

Some people are just born to sing, and soulful R&B vocalist Celeste Waite (GB) is one of them. She crafts languid, jazzy numbers that are elevated by her powerful voice and poetic lyrics. No wonder Celeste is hailed as one of the most promising new voices in British soul.

Anyone who can win the attention of The Cure frontman Robert Smith must be doing something right: The experimental post-punk of DRAHLA (GB) arises from playing with the contrasts between calm singing, multi-layered rhythms and skilfully placed saxophone interludes, creating a musical experience far off the beaten track.

Dreamy and psychedelic, the duo Feng Suave (NL) impresses with atmospheric guitar sounds and delicate vocals and show they can also create their own retro-futuristic, world-class pop gems.

The cool and crisply-produced electro pop of Monika Engeseth alias Moyka (NO) is extremely catchy, the rich beats and versatile voice of the young artist effortlessly lining up one catchy tune after the other.

The thrilling female pop-punk quartet The Hormones (CN) is no longer a well-kept secret thanks to their furious live shows in their home country. They combine concentrated high-voltage energy with clever melodies.
